Mimstermade Embroidery on Knit Class
We are thrilled to welcome Tomomi Mimura (aka mimstermade) to London for a very special series of workshops hosted by Loop. Coming all the way from Japan, Tomomi hasn’t taught here for years, and we’re incredibly excited to have her here during this unique week of creativity alongside Aitor Saraiba. This is a rare opportunity to learn directly from one of the world’s most talented textile artists.
Location: Crafts Council Islington hosted by Loop
Date & Time: Sunday, the 24th of May - 11- 2:30 pm
Bring a knitted sweater, scarf, or any garment you love, and give it a fresh new expression with mosaic darning embroidery. Cotton shirts and other favorite pieces are also welcome!
In this hands-on workshop, we’ll use a water-soluble stabilizer to map your design directly onto your garment before stitching. You’ll have access to specially hand-dyed yarns, created specifically for mosaic embroidery.
This technique draws inspiration from traditional repair darning but follows a unique, layered process. By gradually building threads and colors, you create a mosaic-like surface that adds texture, depth, and individuality to your piece.
We’re thrilled to host Tomomi at the historic Crafts Council, Islington – enjoy your class surrounded by beautiful galleries and rooms that showcase the very best of British craft. The Crafts Council building in Islington is a place that has championed creativity and craftsmanship for decades. From the elegant galleries to the beautifully preserved rooms, every corner exudes inspiration, making it the perfect setting to explore, experiment, and create. Just a 4-minute walk from Angel Tube and 8 minutes from Loop in Camden Passage, the venue sits at the heart of Angel, surrounded by an array of fantastic cafés, shops, and restaurants. See the map here

-
The fundamental techniques of mosaic darning embroidery
-
How to blend colours and create subtle gradients
Stitch a small “companion” onto your sleeve, collar, or any spot that speaks to you, transforming your garment into a one-of-a-kind creation.
