Hikaru Noguchi Darning Workshop
Date: August 3rd & 4th - Saturday and Sunday
Afternoon Class: 3pm - 6pm
The workshop will be taught at Loop in London and focus on Hikaru's new Sock Darning Book (published in Japanese in Japan July 2024). Hikaru will show new unique techniques using stockings to fill holes and reinforce damaged areas of socks.
She will teach you how to do this mending using a few different mending stitches. Hikaru's mending stitches and techniques are pretty wonderful for all kinds of damage.
Material which students need to bring with them to the workshop: Damaged socks other damaged knitwear.
Because she is a knit textile designer, she uses darning techniques not only to mend damaged clothing, but as a textile element to create more interesting textures on knits.
Darning and mending expert Hikaru Noguchi has developed modern techniques that use very a simple back stitch (Seed Darning) and blanket stitch (Honeycomb Darn) to repair and mend stains, thinning, and holes on garments. These simple techniques work really well on any stretchy garment as well as traditional woven materials.
Hikaru will demonstrate these techniques and also give guidance and feedback on your stitching.

Materials:
Loop and Hikaru will provide a great range of threads and yarns for you to play with on the day, but if you have any you would like to use, feel free to bring those along.
Loop also stocks Hikaru's wonderful book on visible mending and surface stitching, as well as her handmade darning mushrooms. We have also just received more of Hikaru's wonderful handmade Jellyfish darning tools!
We are so thrilled to welcome Hikaru back to Loop. When we first opened in 2005, Hikaru Noguchi's knitted garments were one of the very first handmade collections we stocked. I have long loved her whole aesthetic and it has been a joy over the years to see her work evolve. To see her stitched embroidery on knit is now so inspiring and she, along with Celia Pym and a handful of others, is a master at it.
*Prices include some materials. Classes are held in the shop. Maximum of 7 students per class.
100% deposit is required at registration.
Cancellation policy:
Should you want to cancel your place, a refund of payment for the class will be given for cancellations, minus a 10% admin fee.
We reserve the right to cancel a class in unusual circumstances. We try to avoid this wherever possible, but sometimes it cannot be avoided. In this situation, of course, a full refund will be given.
