La Bien Aimée - Gilliatt (Limited Edition)
Limited Edition.
We are so excited to stock some of La Bien Aimée's hand-dyed Gilliatt, the famous Worsted weight base from French yarn company De Rerum Natura. A natural yarn produced in France, Gilliatt is a woollen spun yarn made of soft French Merino d'Arles and Black Portuguese wool. The latter gives the base a naturally heathered look which gives beautiful depth to La Bien Aimée colours.
Gilliatt is a Non-Superwash Merino yarn and offers very generous yardage of 250m (approx. 270yds) for 100g skein. This is a great yarn for sweaters and winter accessories such as hats and mitts. It is strong and long lasting, does not grow with blocking and makes cables and colourwork really pop!
Flocks are raised traditionally and ethically.
For all colours, at least 50% of the wool is certified organic.
An aran/worsted weight yarn that can also be used as a DK weight for some projects by adjusting the needle size.
Yarns are sold by the skein.
De Rerum Natura is a wonderful French brand specialising in the production of European merino yarn. Sustainability and transparency are at the heart of the company’s ethos and this translates into every aspect of their business practice.
50% of their wool comes from certified organic flocks raised by transhumance – an ancient practice in which flocks are moved from one grazing ground to another following a seasonal cycle. The rest of their fleece is sourced from small traditional farms chosen for their respect for animal welfare.
Their yarn is spun and dyed in a small mill in Rougnat, France. The mill uses a phyto-purification system to filter their water as well as dyes that are compliant to the norms set by REACH – an EU organisation in charge of regulating the use and production of chemicals in manufacturing.
Be sure to also take a look at La Bien Aimée's other fantastic worsted weight yarns, including Corrie Worsted and Corrie Confetti, all hand-dyed in a gorgeous array of colours.
This is an ethical yarn that is mulesing-free
