Simple but effective colorwork in merino/mohair yields an eye-catching result in this hat and mitts set by Véronik Avery. The yarn's soft halo gives the pieces an almost glowing appearance. The perfect project for experimenting with Piper's ultra-sophisticated palette—both accessories together require just 1 skein of each color.
FINISHED MEASUREMENTS:
hat: 18˝" [47 cm] brim circumference and 8ľ" [22 cm] tall / mitts: 6ľ (8, 9)" [17 (20.5, 22.5) cm] hand circumference and 6˝" [16.5 cm] long
YARN:
Piper / one skein each: laredo 613 (A) / coldspring 611 (B) / sweetwater 604 (C) / lone oak 612 (D) / Note: One skein of each color will make the hat and mitt set. If you would only like to make part of the set, you will need approximately these quantities: 30g of A, 10g each of B, C, and D for hat only; 20g of A, 8g each of B, C, and D for mitts only.
You can also use any other laceweight yarns
NEEDLES:
16" circular in size US 3 [3.25 mm] / set dpns in sizes US 2 and 3 [2.75 and 3.25 mm]
GAUGE:
hat: 26 sts and 32 rnds = 4" [10 cm] in color work pattern with larger needles, after blocking / mitts: 30 sts and 32 rnds = 4" [10 cm] in color work pattern with smaller needles, after blocking
SKILLS REQUIRED:
Long-tail and backward loop cast ons (links provided), stranded color work (link to tutorial on color dominance provided), increasing, decreasing, working in the round. Charts only.
