Cultivate: Knitting the Beauty of Nature
In Cultivate, Dee Hardwicke and Jonna Helin come together to celebrate the beauty of everyday simplicity through the art of knitting. Featuring 20 timeless patterns, this collection blends Dee’s botanical scarves — rich with nature-inspired motifs — and Jonna’s effortless, elegant garments designed to last.
Many of the designs use a clever mix of knitting and duplicate stitch embroidery. They are created by knitting a square or panel of fabric and then doing a type of Swiss Darning on top of the stitches to create the beautiful designs.
You can view all the patterns on Ravelry to start planning.
We've also assembled a gorgeous kit for one of the designs, Rose. Be sure to join us at Loop on November 23rd, where Dee and Jonna will be hosting a special book signing and demonstration event, along with a showcase of their stunning samples!
In their first collaboration, Dee and Jonna inspire knitters to draw from the beauty of the world around them, creating pieces that are simple yet deeply beautiful.
Jonna Helin, the creative force behind Laine Publishing, brings over 25 years in the publishing industry and a lifelong love of knitting. Growing up in a family of crafters, she finds peace in knitting and draws inspiration from both her serene Finnish forest cabin and vibrant city streets. Her designs reflect the balance between nature's calm and urban energy, emphasising honest, timeless simplicity.

Dee Hardwicke is a British artist, designer and knitter whose work is deeply inspired by Britain’s ever-changing landscapes and cottage gardens.
Her sketchbooks serve as a visual diary of her life, capturing the enchanting details of nature. Each page overflows with drawings, watercolours and pressed leaves, translating the beauty of wildflower meadows, drifting clouds and butterfly wings into her distinctive nature-inspired knits. Having knitted since her teenage years, Dee loves turning her sketches into timeless pieces of wearable art that celebrate the union of creativity, craft and practicality.
Her creativity spans multiple mediums, from knitting to collaborations with esteemed partners like the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew and the National Trust, where her artistic vision is brought to life through beautiful flooring, tableware and stationery.
