Aitor Saraiba × Tomomi Mimura (mimstermade): Embroidered Bear Workshop
A rare opportunity to learn from two internationally celebrated artists! Tomomi Mimura (aka Mimstermade) (Japan) and Aitor Saraiba (Spain) are visiting London for a special week of workshops hosted by Loop – their first time teaching together with us!
Location: We’re delighted to host Tomomi Mimura and Aitor Saraiba at the historic Crafts Council, Islington – one of the most celebrated spaces in British craft. With its light-filled studios, elegant galleries, and beautifully preserved rooms, it offers an inspiring setting to learn directly from two extraordinary international artists.
This special series marks Tomomi’s long-awaited return to London from Japan, alongside Aitor’s distinctive, expressive approach to embroidery. Hosted by Loop and just a short walk from our shop in Camden Passage, it’s a rare opportunity to experience their work and teaching in this remarkable creative setting.
Dates & Times:
-
May 20 – Wednesday: 10:30–2:00pm
-
May 23 – Saturday: 10:30–2:00pm & 3:00–6:30pm
Each 3.5-hour workshop welcomes a maximum of 20 students and includes a special embroidered kit. The kit features Tomomi’s iconic Embroidered Bear motif, stitched with her signature darning technique, combined with Aitor’s intuitive drawn embroidery. Hand-dyed Japanese yarns, exclusive fabrics, and materials from Aitor’s studio create a rich, experimental palette to explore and personalise.
You can stitch directly onto the provided fabrics or bring your own knitwear, cloth, or garment. Finished pieces can be worn, framed, or reimagined however you like.
Designed as a calm, inspiring, and creative experience, the workshop focuses on process as much as the final piece. Suitable for all levels, it’s perfect for anyone who loves embroidery as drawing, repair, and storytelling with thread.
This exciting collaboration is a rare chance to learn, create, and be inspired by two extraordinary artists in a beautiful historic space. This should be a truly incredibly special day spent with two of the most inspiring textile artists. We're honoured to have them at Loop.
Tea, coffee, and lovely biscuits will be provided throughout the day.
Address for the workshop: The Crafts Council, 44A Pentonville Rd, London N1 9BY
