Freia - Merino Shawl Ball
With over 400 yards per skein, there’s plenty of yarn for a light but cosy medium-sized shawl. Using two skeins creates a generously sized wrap that’s perfect for keeping warm on even the chilliest days. The beautifully designed gradients flow smoothly from one shade to the next, making every row engaging and enjoyable to knit.
This custom-spun single-ply merino comes from small farms in the Rocky Mountains and is milled in North Carolina before being hand-dyed in the North Adams studio. Gentle, environmentally mindful acid-dye processes bring the colours to life. The yarn is untreated and should be hand washed to avoid felting. Although it’s a single ply, the dyeing process slightly fulls the fibre—meaning the wool fibres gently bloom and lightly bind together. This adds strength and durability without sacrificing softness, allowing the yarn to handle cables, lace, and even a bit of tinking with ease. For the neatest joins between skeins, wet-splicing creates a smooth, invisible, and reliable connection.
This is a mulesing-free merino, grown and spun in the United States to very particular specifications. Though exceptional stitch-definition has long been a hallmark of Freia's single-ply yarns, the loftiness of this Merino Fingering is particularly versatile, lending itself to be stitched up in a variety of gauges without losing definition or drape
