Mimster Mosaic Embroidery Rabbit Workshop
Tomomi Mimura is coming from Japan to host this fabulous workshop with us in May! Don't miss out, it's going to be a very special event with more classes scheduled during the week of 18 - 24th of May and a meet and greet with the artist Tomomi Mimura and Aitor Saraiba on the 22nd of May.
Bring your very own rabbit to life with the art of mosaic embroidery!
We provide everything you need: hand-dyed yarn, needles, and fabric pre-printed with the design.
Location: The Craft Council hosted by Loop
Date & Time : Wednesday 20th of May, 3:00 - 6:30 pm
Mosaic embroidery is a unique technique inspired by traditional darning. Unlike regular embroidery, you’ll layer threads and colours to build up surfaces, creating a textured, mosaic-like effect.
In this workshop, you’ll learn:
• The essential techniques of mosaic embroidery
• How to change colours and create soft, beautiful gradients
Beginners are very welcome. There’s something wonderfully calming about watching the colours overlap and the shape slowly emerge with each stitch. Join us for a gentle, creative moment and discover the joy of making.
• Embroidery hoop (around 10cm / 4 inches)
• Embroidery scissors (or small thread snips)
• Writing materials (pen and notebook)
• Glasses or a magnifier (if you need them for close-up work)
Finished Rabbit is approximately 20cm in height
Tomomi Mimura is from the southern island of Okinawa and currently lives near Tokyo. She is an artist and a creator of mosaic-darning. Tomomi came across mosaic tiles in Guell park in Barcelona which served as inspiration to create her unique "darning embroidery" for her whimsical illustrations made of darning pieces or "tiles".
We have been honoured to welcome Tomomi to Loop from Japan, for workshops and have loved having her books, kits, and haberdashery for her unique mosaic darn-embroidery in the shop.
