Under Jessie’s expert guidance, you'll learn appliqué techniques that transform fabric into a canvas for storytelling. Experiment with a variety of embroidery stitches, including satin, running, seed, cross, and couching, as you bring texture and depth to your piece. You'll also have the opportunity to incorporate found objects and personal mementos into your embroidery—perhaps turning a pearl button into the centre of a flower or a delicate ribbon into a shimmering detail in a stitched landscape.

The session begins with an introduction to Jessie’s original artworks, offering inspiration before you embark on your own creative journey. Whether you choose to create a narrative-based piece or simply immerse yourself in a slow-stitching experience, this masterclass encourages exploration and self-expression. You might even create a stitched sampler to spark ideas for future projects.

Each participant will receive a specially designed kit, including a natural fabric base, a selection of pre-cut appliqué motifs by Jessie, and a printed stitch guide to take home. If you prefer a more personal touch, you’re welcome to bring your own vintage fabrics—such as tablecloths, linen napkins, or cherished garments—to work with.

Personalise Your Work
To make your embroidery even more meaningful, Jessie suggests bringing along a selection of personal materials:

  • Your favourite embroidery threads and fabric scraps
  • A vintage linen or cotton piece (such as a tablecloth or napkin)
  • Small sentimental items like buttons, charms, lace, or keys
  • A drawing, poem, quote, or word that inspires you
  • Any ongoing embroidery projects you'd like to share

Let this workshop be a time of creativity, exploration, and inspiration—stitch by stitch.

Taught by Jessie Chorley.

"I am an independent designer, maker, collector and tutor specialising in Embroidery Collage and Appliqué... At the heart of my work is hand-stitching, and traditional embroidery techniques combined with my passion for collecting. My needle and thread act as my drawing tool, I use favourite and usually found threads to illustrate chosen imagery and words directly on and in to my chosen fabrics, books, papers and found items I mainly work with paper and fabric all of which I have found, this being my passion, my inspiration and always my starting point "
