Folk Art Sampler Workshop with Anne Kelly

Sold out
£100.00

We are thrilled to be able to welcome author and textile artist Anne Kelly to Loop on Saturday, October 12th, 2024.

The workshop is scheduled to be a full day from 11 am to 5 pm with a break for lunch.
It is a one-day class.

This class is suitable for any level of experience and abilities, and stitch techniques will be taught during class as needed.

The all-day workshop focuses on folk art textiles from around the world, and is very much inspired by Anne's book Textile Folk Art.
The day will start with a look at some samples of folk art from around the world followed by some demonstrations of techniques used in the examples.

You will then begin to design your piece, using some Indian block prints for elements and borders provided by Anne. Simple collage and hand stitching and kantha techniques will be shown and used as well as some block printing, stencilling and appliqué techniques.

You will then be able to make a small piece incorporating the techniques you’ve learnt.

It is a good idea to choose a colour scheme/theme before you start. Folk art themed images like birds, animals and houses and books or photos that inspire you are also useful.

You’ll have the rest of the day for stitching and having a lovely time!

Materials to bring:

Backing fabric (strong cotton, canvas or linen) netural or embroidered – no larger than A4
Strips of colourful, fabric and or ribbon or trim
A variety of fabric scraps
Birds (cut from fabric or drawings to make one) if desired

Embroidery cotton

We'll have a lovely selection of fabric bits that you can use in your projects as well.

Anne will provide printing blocks and paints for your use during the workshop so please bring an apron or old shirt to protect your clothing.
